Does Heating Cold Brew Coffee Make It Acidic

The most awesome thing about cold brew coffee is it is strong in flavor but low in acidity and it can be served either cold or hot based on the consumer’s desire. But, there raises a question, does heating cold-brewed coffee make it acidic?

The answer to the above question is big-no. Cold brew is lower in acidity than iced coffee or other brew methods because the acidity has a direct relation with heat. In the cold brewing process, the beans themselves are not exposed to heat like other brewing processes, therefore, the heating of cold brew concentrate has no effect on its acidity.

The longer the water mixes with the beans, the higher the caffeine, and cold brew is often mingling for 12-24 hours to extract flavor naturally.

Why Does Cold Brew Coffee Taste Better?

Acidity and Caffeine formula

Beans + Water + HEAT = Acidity

Beans + Water + TIME = Caffeine

Cold Brew Vs Iced Coffee: Which Is More Acidic

The acidity in coffee solely depends on how the coffee is extracted during the coffee brewing process.

Iced coffee is made similarly to how regular coffee is made and then just adds ice to the coffee or keeps the coffee in the refrigerator for some time.

However, on the other hand, Cold brew coffee doesn’t use heat for flavor extraction and it takes a longer time for extracting coffee at normal temperatures so cold brew coffee is far more caffeine than iced coffee. And, it tastes sweet and smooth.

Now, it is easy to understand that cold brew coffee is less acidic compared to iced coffee

because the coffee bean comes in contact with heat and the extraction occurs in the presence of heat in the ice brewing process.
